Earlier today a story was released about a compromise and protocols hoping to move our denomination forward. As you all might know, there has been sustained disagreement relative to the full inclusion of LGBTQ people in the United Methodist Church. While our global denomination won't make a final decision on this topic (and others) until General Conference 2020, I want to express our church's continued love and invitation to all people seeking to be seen and known. Further, it is my hope that we will continue to wrestle with the injustices which continue to plague our denomination including racial and gender inequities which persist across our connection.
Please join me in praying for every delegate to the General Conference who will help to determine the next steps for the denomination that we love. Pray for our LGBTQ+ siblings who, still, might feel less seen, heard, known, and loved. It is my sincerest hope that we will move forward toward a denomination which leans into our baptismal covenant to, "resist evil and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves." our denomination and the world demand nothing less.
